Petals
On the eve of parting
I stuck a rose in my hair.
Distractions are needed
When words cannot be found.
Roses he said are the best
Fresh red inviting
He said , breathing in deeply
Drawing me into his arms once again.
The words stuck in my throat .
My eyes lips finger tips
took over , speaking lies.
Inhibitions are shed
when motives no longer matter.
Deceiving is easy
When love is taken for granted.
I smile a cowardly smile
Glancing at him slyly
Wondering if he had noticed
The packed bags in the corner,
my glances at the clock, furtive.
He was dressing hurriedly to leave.
Unlike me , to return.
Stolen moments bring pleasure
leaving one crushed
Wanting to be gathered , held close
belong once again .
Like the petals on the bed
Now black , mourning.
