creationIn the beginning
God made man
Strong, virile
Power personified.
With a stomach for blood.
The protector.
The conquerer.
A carnal beast.

And then
No one knows why
He waited
Like a perplexed poet
Trying to find the right word
Chewed on his pencil
Took a walk
Scratched his head,
Wondering how
To complete his song.

And so he made the woman
Strong, virile
Power personified.
With a stomach for blood.
More blood. More pain.
The protector
The conquerer.
A carnal beast.

But moulded her with charm
Gave her grace, gave her wisdom
Not to strike but to disarm,
To show
What it is to be a beast and human.

And so, satisfied
With someone to take care
Of his erring firstborn
He went back to sleep.
